Frequently asked questions
How much is Family Tax Benefit Part A in 2025-26?
The maximum rate is $227.36 a fortnight ($5,927.60 a year) for each child aged 0–12 and $295.82 a fortnight ($7,712.45 a year) for each child 13–15 or 16–19 in full-time secondary study. The base rate is $72.94 a fortnight ($1,901.65 a year) per child. Families earning $80,000 or less also get a $938.05 per-child supplement after the year ends.
What is the FTB Part A income test?
You get the maximum rate while adjusted taxable family income is $66,722 or less (2025-26). Above that, FTB reduces by 20 cents per dollar until it reaches the base rate. Once income passes the higher income free area of $118,771, the payment reduces by 30 cents per dollar of the base rate — though Services Australia pays the higher of the two calculation methods, which helps larger families.
Who can get FTB Part B?
Single parents, grandparent carers and single-income couples. The higher earner must have adjusted taxable income of $120,007 or less (2025-26). Couples qualify only while the youngest child is under 13; single parents and grandparent carers can qualify until the youngest turns 18 if they’re still in secondary school. Single parents under the income limit get the full rate with no further test.
How much is FTB Part B and how does the second income affect it?
For 2025-26 the maximum including the supplement is $5,500.55 a year when the youngest child is under 5, or $3,978.50 when the youngest is 5 or older. For couples, the lower earner can earn $6,935 a year before the payment reduces by 20 cents per dollar — cutting out entirely at about $34,438 (youngest under 5) or $26,828 (youngest 5–13).
What are the FTB supplements and when are they paid?
The Part A supplement is up to $938.05 per child (only if family income is $80,000 or less) and the Part B supplement is up to $459.90 per family (2025-26). They’re paid after the financial year ends, once you lodge your tax return and Services Australia balances your payments, and children must meet immunisation and Healthy Start for School requirements.
Does child support reduce Family Tax Benefit?
Yes — through the separate maintenance income test. Child support above the free area ($2,003.85 a year for a single parent in 2025-26, plus $667.95 per additional child) reduces FTB Part A by 50 cents per dollar, but never below the base rate. This calculator assumes no child support; if you receive some, your actual Part A may be lower.
