Frequently asked questions

How much is the Canada Child Benefit in 2025–2026?

For July 2025 to June 2026, the maximum CCB is $7,997 per year ($666.41 per month) for each child under 6 and $6,748 per year ($562.33 per month) for each child aged 6 to 17. Families with 2024 adjusted family net income (AFNI) of $37,487 or less receive the full amount; above that, the benefit is gradually reduced.

How is the CCB reduced as my income rises?

Between $37,487 and $81,222 of AFNI, the benefit is reduced by 7% (1 child), 13.5% (2), 19% (3) or 23% (4+) of income over $37,487. Above $81,222 the reduction is a fixed amount ($3,061 / $5,904 / $8,310 / $10,059 by family size) plus 3.2% / 5.7% / 8% / 9.5% of income over $81,222.

Is the Canada Child Benefit taxable?

No. CCB payments are completely tax-free and do not need to be reported as income on your tax return. However, both you and your spouse or common-law partner must file a tax return every year — even with no income — or payments will stop.

What is the Child Disability Benefit?

If your child is approved for the disability tax credit, the CRA automatically adds up to $3,411 per year ($284.25 per month) per eligible child for July 2025 to June 2026. It is reduced once family income exceeds $81,222, at 3.2% for one eligible child or 5.7% for two or more.

Will the CCB increase in July 2026?

Yes. With the confirmed 2.0% indexation for 2026, the maximums rise to $8,157 per child under 6 and $6,883 per child aged 6–17 starting with the July 2026 payment, which will be calculated from your 2025 tax return. Income thresholds are indexed too.

How does shared custody affect CCB payments?

When custody is shared roughly equally, each parent receives exactly 50% of the amount they would get with full custody, calculated from their own adjusted family net income. The CRA does not split payments in any other proportion.
