How it works

An FBA calculator works out the profit on a product sold through Amazon's Fulfillment by Amazon. From the sale price it subtracts your product cost, Amazon's referral fee (a percentage of the sale), and the FBA fulfillment and storage fees — what's left is your profit, and dividing that by the sale price gives your margin.

FBA profit & margin

Profit = Sale price − product cost − referral fee − FBA fees        Margin% = Profit ÷ Sale price × 100
referral fee
Amazon's cut, typically ~15% of the sale
FBA fees
pick, pack, ship, and storage

Worked example

  • Sale price = $25, product cost = $7
  • Referral fee 15% = $3.75, FBA fee = $5.50
  1. Profit = 25 − 7 − 3.75 − 5.50

Profit = $8.75 — a 35% margin.

Good to know

  • Oversized and heavy items carry much higher FBA fees — check the size tier before sourcing.
  • Long-term storage fees add up on slow-moving inventory, eating into margin.
  • Factor in returns, PPC ad spend, and inbound shipping for a true net profit.
