Before you start

  • There is no clock. This is a power test: take the time each question needs. Rushing helps nothing.
  • Each question has exactly one correct answer. If you are truly stuck, choose your best guess and move on — a blank counts the same as a wrong answer.
  • You can change answers freely within a chapter, but not after leaving it.
  • Your progress saves automatically on this device; you can close the tab and finish later.
  • Two practice questions come first. They don't count.

Your age group (optional)

Reasoning speed and style shift with age, so knowing your band makes the interpretation fairer. Skipping it just scores you against all adults.

Not for employment, clinical, or educational-placement decisions. How this test works and what it can't tell you.

What a quick IQ test can and cannot tell you

A 12-question test is a sketch, not a portrait. It can locate you in a broad band — comfortably above average, around average, below — and it genuinely cannot do more, which is why the result here is drawn as a wide range on the bell curve rather than announced as a single number. The arithmetic is unforgiving: measurement error shrinks with the square root of test length, so a test one-third as long has a band nearly twice as wide.

The honest use of this page: a fast first look, from the same question engine and scoring model as the full 36-question test. If the result interests you, the full version narrows the band to roughly ±5 points and adds a proper per-domain profile.

What's in the 12 questions

Five matrix puzzles, three sequences, two spatial rotations and two verbal analogies — the same domain balance as the full test, compressed. Every question is generated fresh for your attempt and machine-verified to have exactly one defensible answer. Prefer no language at all? The culture-fair test drops the verbal domain entirely.

Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate can a 5-minute IQ test be?

Less accurate than anyone selling one admits. With 12 questions the measurement uncertainty is around ±12 IQ points — enough to tell "well above average" from "about average" from "below average", and no more. That is why this test reports a wide range and links to the 36-question version, which roughly halves the band. Any short test promising an exact number is manufacturing precision it does not have.

Why take a quick test at all?

Because sometimes a rough answer now beats a precise answer never. The quick test samples the same four reasoning domains as the full test — patterns, sequences, rotation, words — with the same generated-question engine and the same scoring model. It is a genuine miniature, not a different, easier test.

Is it really free? No email at the end?

Really free. The result appears the instant you answer the last question — range, percentile, domain sketch. No email field exists anywhere on this site’s tests, and there is nothing to buy.

Is the quick test timed?

No. "Quick" describes its length — 12 questions — not a countdown. Like every test here it is untimed, because adding time pressure would mix processing speed into a reasoning estimate and penalise older and more anxious test-takers. Most people simply finish 12 questions in about five minutes.
